7 Charges Unsealed in Classified Docs Probe!

Donald Trump, who has been impeached twice, is the first former president to be indicted on federal criminal charges after a federal grand jury found him guilty of mishandling more than 100 classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida last year.

Trump claimed on Thursday night that the special counsel’s investigation into his handling of sensitive documents has resulted in an indictment and that his attorneys have been told of this.

Two persons with knowledge of the situation confirmed the indictment, one of whom also said that Trump had been issued a summons to appear in U.S. District Court on Tuesday.

Trump wrote: “The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax,” in a post on his social media network Truth Social.

The allegations mark Trump’s second indictment since leaving office, yet the news nonetheless caused a stir across the nation, with fans and detractors commenting on its significance.

While the initial allegations focused on Trump’s behavior while running for office in 2016, the new charges also address his actions as he was leaving the White House and pay attention to how he handled some of the most sensitive national secrets.

7 Charges Unsealed in Classified Docs Probe

False statements and a conspiracy to obstruct justice are among the seven allegations and two persons were briefed on them. The charges all center on keeping records and impeding the legal system.

Multiple counts may be connected to each order, one source; therefore seven heads do not always equate to seven counts. The New York Times was the first to report on the accusations’ nature.

Jim Trusty, a lawyer for Trump told CNN that the summons the government sent to his office contained “several obstruction-based type charges, and then false statement charges.”

When asked if there was a conspiracy charge, he responded, “I believe so.” one of the allegations was related to the Espionage Act.

A special counsel spokeswoman declined to comment. A different source, the indictment is sealed, thus the government is unable to comment at this time. The government has hinted at possible accusations.

In a search warrant issued in August for Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property, detectives sought proof of three offenses concerning improperly handling private government records, including whether the materials were distributed to “unauthorized” individuals.

Since then, attorneys for the Justice Department have suggested that there may have been an obstruction-related felony. Even though the case had been given to a different special counsel, Trump, and his Republican allies centered their response on trying to blame President Joe Biden for the indictment.

Regarding the indictment, the White House chose not to comment. To an administration representative, the White House was only made aware of the charge through media reports.

Biden claimed he had not tipped the scales when asked Thursday why the American public should trust the Justice Department because of Trump’s criticism.

“I have never once, not one single time, suggested to the Justice Department what they should do or not do … any charges or not bring any charges. I am honest,” Biden declared.

When Trump was the first to reveal the indictment’s existence, he seemed ready. He sent out a donation request mentioning the charges shortly after announcing that he had been charged with violating the Truth Social laws.

The email requesting donations stated, “The Biden-appointed Special Counsel has INDICTED me in yet another witch hunt regarding documents that I had the RIGHT to declassify as President of the United States,” and urged supporters to “make a contribution to peacefully stand” with him.

In a four-minute video he later shared on Truth Social, he claimed to be “an innocent man” and referred to the investigation as “a hoax.” He declared, “I’m an innocent person.”

I made no mistakes. And we’ll fight it as we have for the past seven years. Making America great again would be fantastic if we could devote our full attention to it.

Secret Service officer Trump’s team will meet with the Secret Service on Friday to prepare the security and logistics for his court appearance on Tuesday afternoon.

The Justice Department’s inquiry, which lasted for several months, is headed by special counsel Jack Smith, who Attorney General Merrick Garland chose for the position.

Smith took over ongoing investigations into Trump’s handling of classified documents discovered at Mar-a-Lago and “key aspects” of the Justice Department’s investigation into the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, and attempts to obstruct the peaceful transfer of power.

Smith was appointed in November after Trump declared his intention to run for the Republican nomination in 2024. The accusations were denounced as politically motivated by several of Trump’s fellow Republican presidential hopefuls and congressional friends.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis tweeted that the “weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society.” At the same time, another of Trump’s presidential rivals, Vivek Ramaswamy, said, “I never thought we would see the day when the U.S. President deputizes the DOJ to arrest his lead rival in the middle of an election.”

He reiterated his vow to pardon Trump if he’s elected president. Californian Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy called the indictment “grave injustice.” He wrote on Twitter, “It is unconscionable for a President to indict his leading opponent.”

Chris Christie, a recently announced contender for president who has criticized Trump and is a former federal prosecutor, said he would reserve judgment until he has seen the indictment. “Let’s see what the facts are when any possible indictment is released,” Christie tweeted.

There are also additional inquiries about Trump. He was separately charged with 34 felonies of manipulating business records in relation to his alleged involvement in hush money payments toward the end of his 2016 presidential campaign by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in early April.

His defense was not guilty. Along with Smith’s investigation from January 6, he is also under criminal investigation in Georgia in connection with the 2020 election.

The federal government repeatedly tried to collect data that Trump had saved from his time in the White House after he left office in January 2021, giving him and his legal team several chances to turn them over.

After Trump’s team confirmed that it had conducted a thorough search for secret materials at the facility, the agency ultimately confiscated more than 11,000 pages of federal paperwork, including more than 100 classified documents, from Mar-a-Lago.

Trump has refuted accusations that he mishandled classified papers by asserting that he had already declassified them. He has also denied doing anything unlawful.

He has also compared his predicament to that of Biden, who was discovered to have secret Obama government records. But things are very different now.
