All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Presents: AEW World Trios Champions Defeated On AEW Dynamite

On this week’s AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan confirmed that Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks had been stripped of their titles for their part in the locker room brawl that happened after Sunday’s All Out pay-per-view. This meant that new AEW World Trios Champions were crowned.

The Elite beat Hangman Page, Alex Reynolds, and John Silver at the end of an eight-man tournament at All Out to become the first champions. They are then said to have confronted Punk after he made some shocking comments during the media scrum.

On Wednesday morning, it was said that they, along with Brandon Cutler, Michael Nakazawa, and several backstage workers, had been suspended for what they had done. It is still not clear if Punk and Ace Steel were also suspended or if the company fired them.

Khan’s announcement said that new champions would be chosen by a match between The Best Friends and Death Triangle, two of the longest-running groups in the company. The second team won in the end, with Pac’s Black Arrow giving them the victory.

Since Forbidden Door, when Death Triangle won, PAC has been the AEW All-Atlantic Champion. With Death Triangle’s win, PAC is now a double champion. Other wrestlers on AEW’s roster, like Omega, have held more than one title at the same time, but this is the first time a wrestler has held two AEW titles at the same time.

Punk also lost the AEW World Championship, which will be decided by a six-man tournament starting with tonight’s show. This week, Hangman Page will face Bryan Danielson and Sammy Guevara will face Darby Allin. The winners of those matches will face Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley on next week’s Dynamite, and the finals will take place at the AEW Grand Slam on Sept. 21.
