Our Monday blues were banished by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s gift of the first trailer for the Wicked movie adaption. The two-part musical movie’s director, Jon Chu, promised a stunning, ominous sneak preview of the upcoming movie version of the Tony-winning Broadway musical on Instagram on Sunday.
“You weren’t told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road? FIRST LOOK of the #WickedMovie … currently in production in Oz. 🌪️🫧🧹” Chu captioned the post.
“It’s been wonderful making magic with you 💚💚💚💚💚,” Erivo commented on the post. Chu posted two enigmatic stills without giving away too many details. The first image showed Erivo’s Elphaba getting ready to take off on her broom as she glanced away from the camera while wearing a dark cloak and pointed cap.
In the second image, Grande is seen dressed as Glinda and ascending a lengthy flight of stairs with blonde locks and a bubblegum pink ball gown.
What is known about the planned movies is that they are based on both the successful Broadway play and Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.
A star-studded cast will be joining Grande and Erivo, including Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard and Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in March 2023, Goldblum revealed his part and said that Grande and Erivo were “very good” in their respective performances.

Chu indicated that Faye Dunaway would also be joining the production when tagging the actors in the photo, but she hasn’t said what part she plays.
