Under Georgia’s RICO Act, eleven of the twelve were convicted guilty of racketeering in April 2015. In 2018, she opened her private practice. That year, she tried and failed to get appointed to the Fulton County Superior Court. In 2019, Willis was appointed Chief Municipal Judge of South Fulton, Georgia.

Willis launched a criminal investigation on February 10, 2021, into Donald Trump’s attempt to influence Georgia election officials, including as the governor and attorney general, and a phone conversation he had with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

She asked for a special grand jury to look into claims that Trump and his allies rigged the election in January 2022. With the capacity to subpoena witnesses and conduct investigations, a special grand jury consisting of 26 members was entrusted with the responsibility of informing Willis and the court about any criminal activity.

The judge issued a subpoena to members of Trump’s legal team, including Senator Lindsey Graham, former Capitol Hill attorney Jacki Pick Deason, Rudy Giuliani, Kenneth Chesebro, John Eastman, Jenna Ellis, and Cleta Mitchell, on July 5, 2022.

On August 4, the grand jury subpoenaed Governor Brian Kemp. Giuliani was made aware that he was the subject of an investigation on August 15, two days prior to his appearance before the special grand jury.

A federal judge affirmed Graham’s subpoena and ordered him to testify on August 23; however, an appeals court granted him a postponement. Ellis’s testimony was scheduled for August 25. Willis has written target letters to people she is looking into in relation to the plot of the phony elector.

For her part in setting up the data collecting from voting machines and systems at the county’s elections office in rural Coffee County in January 2021, Sidney Powell was called in August 2022.
