ICANN Renews PIR’s .ORG Agreement

Last week Public Interest Registry, the .org top-level domain registry, announced ICANN had renewed their .ORG Registry Agreement. It is now consistent with the standard registry agreements already in place for more than 1,200 other top-level domain extensions in the marketplace.

It’s a move that was welcomed by PIR. They noted in a post on their blog “an encouraging milestone as it demonstrates a maturing domain industry.

However, one controversial aspect of the renewed agreement is the removal of price caps on the registry fees.

The PIR has said a few things about .ORG community. The .ORG community is considered in every decision we make. We are incredibly proud of the more than 15 years we have spent as a responsible steward of .ORG. PIR remains committed to acting in the best interest of the .ORG community for years to come.”
