Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor go to great lengths to maintain their union. The couple and their former Vanderpump Rules co-stars, one of the last remaining couples from the Bravo reality series, spoke up to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview on the ups and downs of marriage.
“We would always hear when we got married, people were like, ‘They’ll be together for one year,’ or whatever. Now we’ve been together for eight years, almost married for four. We’re trucking through,
“The pair’s upcoming podcast, When Reality Hits with Jax & Brittany, which will give listeners an honest peek at their daily life, is being promoted by Cartwright, 34.
Taylor, 43, continues by saying that even though some times are more complex than others, he has no intention of ever giving up. “I’m not a fan of divorce. My parents never separated, “says Taylor. “I don’t believe in that. Marriage is work. I’m not saying every day is amazing.”
Cartwright adds a comment: “Yes. It is amazing!” “There are good days and there are bad days, but that’s marriage, and that’s what makes your relationship stronger,” Taylor adds. “We love hard. We fight hard. It’s amazing.”
According to Taylor, the two are “best friends,” and his wife is the “only one” who can put up with him. “We have a lot of fun with each other. I honestly can’t imagine my life with anybody else. As I said, she’s the ying to my yang, a little,” he explains.
“I’m a tough guy to be around, so it takes a certain person to deal with my crap,” he continues. “Even through all this, and even though my life is a lot better now, I’m still tough to handle. I think she’s the only one that can put up with me really.”
“[It] needs some patience,” continues Cartwright. There have been ups and downs in the couple’s relationship. In 2017, Taylor’s partner experienced a temporary breakup when he admitted to cheating on her. Nonetheless, they eventually turned things around and declared their engagement in June 2018.
The couple, who announced their retirement from the Bravo series in 2020, wed in June 2019 in front of 240 of their closest friends and family at The Kentucky Castle in the bride’s home state.
Several members of the couple’s cast, including bridesmaids Scheana Shay, Ariana Madix, Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, and Lala Kent, attended the fanciful wedding. Although Tom Schwartz, the best man, and Katie Maloney were still wed, Katie Maloney assumed the role of matron of honor.
In their PEOPLE interview, Taylor and Cartwright also discussed how having their son Cruz in the world has strengthened their bond. Taylor is a father to their young son, who will turn two next month. Cartwright adds that becoming parents made them stronger because she loves watching Taylor as a father. It only deepens your affection for him.

“Being a parent is awesome. It’s changed my life,” says Taylor, who appeared on Wednesday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen alongside his wife, as Cartwright adds, “We’re obsessed.”
Cruz Michael Cauchi was born in April 2021, and the pair shared a cute Instagram photo of themselves cuddling him and kissing his head to announce the birth. Cartwright captioned the photo, “Yesterday, April 12th, at 1:51 pm, our lives changed forever in the best manner conceivable.
The Vanderpump Rules cast members continued to comment on the rumors that Tom Sandoval had cheated on his girlfriend of nine years, Ariana Madix, with their co-star Raquel Leviss even though they had left the reality series behind.
After learning about the affair, Taylor says, “That wasn’t startling to me. “We went to high school together, so I’ve known Tom Sandoval for 20 years. I only know his way of life. I’ve indicated numerous times that I am aware of who he is. Nobody wanted to accept my story.”
The controversy was “very stunning,” according to Cartwright, who said she “did not see” Leviss “doing that to Ariana.” “It’s just all bad,” she adds.
