The legendary guitarist and founding member Jeff Cook of the renowned band ALABAMA has d!ed. The well-known artist, who was named Gibson’s Guitarist of the Year and a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Musicians Hall of Fame, and Fiddlers Hall of Fame, died quietly in November.

On November 7, 2022, in Destin, Florida, Cook, 73, died of Parkinson’s disease in the company of his loving family and close friends. Cook had lived most of his life in Destin. Guitarist Cook, who won numerous awards, bravely battled illness while remaining upbeat. Here  is a Twitter post about his born to de@th:

In Fort Payne, Alabama, on August 27, 1949, Jeffrey Alan Cook was born. He began playing lead guitar and keyboards in bands at the young age of 13, which was his introduction to music. Unbelievably, he got his broadcast license just three days after turning 14, which launched his career as a DJ at a nearby Fort Payne radio station.

His unwavering passion for radio and technology finally led him to become the owner of radio and television stations. Cook earned an Electronic Technology degree from Gadsden State Community College in Alabama after graduating from Fort Payne High School.

He received the “Outstanding Alumni” designation from the American Association of Community Colleges in honor of his accomplishments. Cook loved the way radio united his two biggest loves, which were music and electronics. Cook wed Lisa Williams, his true love, in 1995.

In Fort Payne, Alabama, Guntersville, Alabama, and Destin/Miramar Beach, Florida, they lived in “Cook Castle” on Lookout Mountain. Cook had a hugely successful career with ALABAMA and left a lasting impression on the annals of country music. He left Fort Payne more than 50 years ago with his cousins Teddy Gentry and Randy Owen in order to perform music in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The group persevered for six years while relying on tip jars and word-of-mouth until ultimately landing the major label deal of their dreams. ALABAMA gained notoriety very rapidly and forever altered the landscape of country music.

Together with his bandmates, Cook’s indelible guitar riffs, distinct fiddle playing, superb vocals, and harmonies catapulted the group to 80 million record sales and 43 No. 1 singles, making them the biggest group in the annals of country music.

In 2018, Cook stopped traveling with ALABAMA due to health issues. However, the band continued with his support and approval because Cook wanted “the music to never stop and the party to never end.” His last words, spoken while his family was by his side, were, “Dixieland Delight is a song about Tennessee.”
