The most recent American Auto show finished with a poignant moment of thought as it lovingly remembered crew member Jesse Austin. In the seventh episode of the second season of the NBC sitcom, the Payne group sponsored a nearby elementary school’s annual Young Designers competition.

The occasion was raucous in proper Katherine form, stirring up controversy in an Instagram Live interview. But once all week’s fun and games were through, the American Car program paused to remember Jesse Austin.

After the credits rolled on the most recent episode of the Justin Spitzer-created sitcom, viewers were treated to a moving homage to a cast member. At the episode’s conclusion, a title card with the following text could be seen:

“Dedicated to the memory of Jesse Austin.”

Did You Know Jesse Austin?

On American Auto, Jesse Austin worked as a crew member and was listed as a production staff member. Jesse’s “sudden and unexpected” passing prompted the creation of a GoFundMe page to assist his family. The campaign has received nearly $48,000 in donations since it launched on February 13, 2023, more than four times the $10,000 goal.

The message of dedication posted on the GoFundMe page says:

“Jesse Austin worked hard. He never wanted to say no to employment or an opportunity to provide for his household. The only thing Jesse committed himself to more than his craft, was his family.”
