Kane Williamson of the Gujarat Titans has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a knee injury in the tournament’s opening match in Ahmedabad against the Chennai Super Kings.
According to NZC, Williamson will return home next week and meet with the necessary medical professionals to develop a treatment strategy.
“Sad to see Kane go down with an injury so early in the competition. We wish him a quick recovery and anticipate seeing him back in action soon “Vikram Solanki, the director of cricket for the Titans, said.
Williamson, playing in his first game with the Titans, fell awkwardly while attempting to make a catch near the deep square leg boundary during the 13th over of the Super Kings’ inning.
His right knee buckled beneath his weight. He had jumped to save a ball being hit by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s bat for six.
Williamson was already on the ground clutching his right knee at that moment, but he still managed to rescue two runs by palming the ball into the field of play before it landed on the boundary boards.
Although receiving treatment for some time, he could not return to the field. As a result, the Titans initially brought in B Sai Sudharsan as a replacement outfield before switching the two out of the starting lineup by the new Impact Player regulation.

Williamson’s absence from the field following the IPL is still unknown, but New Zealand coach Gary Stead called the injury “a major blow” for Williamson and the team.
After the Tests and ODIs, New Zealand is playing T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka at home before departing for Pakistan for five T20 Internationals and the same number of ODIs. Williamson missed both of those tours since he was playing in the IPL.
Williamson had suffered from a persistent elbow injury for the previous two years, and he had just lately entirely recovered from it.
