Only four episodes into the first season, AMC decided to renew Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches because they knew a good thing when they saw it. Although Interview with the Vampire, another series set in the Rice universe, obtained a Season 2 renewal before its Season 1 premiere, we must admit that we aren’t astonished by the show’s ability to captivate viewers.
Mayfair Witches was such a hit that its AMC+ launch ratings immediately surpassed Interview with the Vampire. It currently holds the record for the most-watched season of any series inside the first 30 days of the platform.
Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice, starring Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus) as Rowan Fielding, is based on the bestselling series Lives of the Mayfair Witches. Rowan is a young medical prodigy trying to live as normally as she can when she starts to develop some magical abilities and learns that she is the next in line to become a strong witch.
As she learns more about her new life and her family’s proud history, she also understands that her family has been the target of a sinister power for many years.
Together with Daddario, the series also stars Harry Hamlin as the family patriarch Cortland Mayfair, Jack Huston as the evil entity Lasher, and Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien Grieve, a new character who, like the Mayfairs, is aware of Lasher’s presence. Beth Grant and Annabeth Gish are members of the supporting cast.
While we aren’t sure what those behind Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches have in store for us in its follow-up season, in a statement released with the renewal announcement, showrunner, and executive producer Esta Spalding promised that they’ve “only begun to explore” the “sumptuous epic tale” of the family of witches. Spalding added that she was beyond:
“grateful to the fans and viewers of the show who’ve given us the chance to continue telling this story.”
It’s also an incredible moment to be a fan of Rice because Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches are just the beginning of what the Immortal Universe of Anne Rice offers. Mark Johnson, the executive producer of Mayfair Witches, told Collider’s Christina Radish that the Immortal Universe’s backers already had “three additional” projects in the works.
