Never Have I Ever Season 4: Our beloved slob of an adolescent, Devi Vishwakumar, will soon be leaving us (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan). This past Friday marked the return of Never Have I Ever, the teen dramedy created by Mindy Kaling(opens in new tab) and Lang Fisher, which follows a boy-crazy genius through her junior year as she enters and exits two (!) relationships and continues her quest for self-confidence.
The producers have stated that the show’s fourth and final season is currently in production and that Devi’s journey would conclude with her senior year. Everything we know about our senior year at Sherman Oaks High School is listed below.
How Does ‘never Have I Ever Season 3 End?
With the help of her relationships with Paxton (Darren Barnet) and newcomer Des, Devi has a very eventful third season and grows into her own (Anirudh Pisharody).
Devi must decide at the end of the school year whether to continue her high school education at Sherman Oaks High or transfer to a prominent boarding school in Colorado for a unique program. Being the last remaining virgin in her group of friends is also making her feel down.
In the touching last moment, Devi makes the decision to remain in Sherman Oaks, explaining that she wants to spend more time with her mother, Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan).

She also takes the plunge and heads over to Ben’s (Jaren Lewison) place, potentially to hook up with him, after finally giving in to the feelings she’s been harboring for him. (It’s impolite that the season ends before we learn if they truly slept together.)
When Will ‘Never Have I Ever Season 4 Come Out?
Before season 4 even premiered, Kaling and Fisher wrote a message to viewers announcing that it would be the last season of Never Has I Ever. In April, Kaling shared a photo from the show’s writers’ room, signaling the beginning of the end of the show.
Elle(opens in new tab) reports that production for Season 4 wrapped up in early August and that the cast celebrated with a farewell carnival at which both Isla Fisher and Sridevi Ramakrishnan made emotional farewell speeches.
Season 1 premiered in April 2020, season 2 in July 2021, and season 3 will drop in August, all on Netflix. Season 4 was renewed and given a head start, so the final season may not appear on Netflix until late spring or early summer of next year.
After discussing the decision to end the series with Devi and her friends’ high school graduation with Entertainment Tonight(opens in new tab), Kaling stated that the four years of the high school represented “the appropriate amount of time.”
She informed the media that she thought four seasons was reasonable for a high school show. “Obviously, they won’t be teenagers forever. We’re not new to those programs. Consider that you’ve already spent 12 years in high school. Weird things are happening, apparently. Further, as time passes, the actors look increasingly out of place in their roles; a 34-year-old playing a 15-year-old, for example, is absurd.”
Co-creator Elsie Fisher explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly(opens in new tab) that she and Kaling opted out of making the show like other teen shows where everyone goes to the same university.
The idea that everyone should attend college together “feels fake,” she told the media. “Unless you want to bore everyone to death with the introduction of a brand new cast of characters, that is. This is a challenging choice.”
Her comment was as follows: “We may have thought, “This is it, and it’s good.” By coming to a conclusion that pleases all of us, we can wrap out our senior year on a high note and tell this story as we always imagined it.”
Who in the Cast Will Return for ‘Never Have I Ever Season 4?
All of your favorite characters, including Ramakrishnan (Devi), Lewison (Ben), Ramona Young (Eleanor), Lee Rodriguez (Fabiola), Megan Suri (Aneesa), Poorna Jagannathan (Nalini), Richa Moorjani (Kamala), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Mr. K), and Niecy Nash, will be back for the final season since Devi is staying in Sherman Oaks (Dr. Ryan).
Paxton’s (Darren Barnet) decision to attend Arizona State University in the third season finale was also a major event. His graduation speech and talk with Devi could feel like a farewell to the character, yet without him, Never Have I Ever would be missing an essential piece of the love triangle that is Devi’s story. Fisher seems to agree, as the co-creator recently confirmed to Deadline(opens in new tab) that Paxton will indeed feature in season 4.
“I’m writing to let you know that Paxton Hall-Yoshida will be appearing in the fourth season. The love triangle is not resolved since he is still involved as much as he was in Season 3 “the author revealed in the publication.
Des (Anirudh Pisharody), a relatively new cast member, will not be returning, as the actor himself revealed to People (opens in new tab).

What Will ‘never Have I Ever Season 4 Be About?
Fisher told Deadline(opens in new tab) that the central love triangle won’t be easing up at all in season 4, which will highlight Devi’s senior year and all the milestones that will bring up.
We don’t know if Devi goes to Ben in the season 3 finale to start a new relationship or just to utilize her “one free boink” voucher from earlier in the season. Meanwhile, the co-creator has said that her relationship with Paxton has progressed to a new level.
“We start this season off with her being aware that she doesn’t think she’s worthy of Paxton and that she’s still beneath him,” Fisher said to the site. “Our goal for the season finale was to have her finally start to view them as equals. It seems likely that by the end of Season 4, Paxton will no longer be viewed as her ideal man and instead will be portrayed as an equal.”
Without giving anything away, the co-creator then added, “Season 4 will be enjoyable and intriguing things to ensue following whatever has happened [between Devi and Ben].”
Devi will also learn whether or not she was accepted to Princeton University, the school of her dreams, in addition to all the boy drama. Once Devi starts school, the plot will focus on Nalini’s preparations for life as an empty nester. The cute romance between Kamala and Mr. K has been heating up, so it would be interesting to see if they take the next step (like maybe getting engaged?).
Who is Joining the Cast of ‘Never Have I Ever Season 4?
Several new cast members have been added for the final season. Star of “Love, Victor” Michael Cimino is reportedly set to appear on “Sherman Oaks High” as “skater and new heartthrob” Ethan.
Fisher hinted to Deadline that Andres, played by Ivan Hernandez of And Just Like That…, will be Nalini’s new love interest in the upcoming season.
What Have the Cast and Crew said About ‘Never Have I Ever Season 4?
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter(opens in new tab), Fisher teased that in Season 4, Devi would be a “little more of a grown-up version of herself.”
“As far as I’m concerned, season four is all about maturing and moving on. For these characters, it’s their senior year,” she remarked. “What sort of person do they aspire to become? To me, it seems like they’re having an awesome senior year and maturing into somewhat more mature versions of themselves. It is my sincere hope that our characters are sent off into the future in a way that pleases our audience.”
Lewison has spoken of his anticipation for season 4 in an interview with People (opens in new tab), calling the show’s last season a “masterpiece.”
I think season four is the funniest, warmest, wittiest, and most beautiful thing I’ve ever helped create, he says. “Season four’s focus on the individuals’ individual journeys makes it feel like you’re watching them mature right along with them.
It’s wonderful to watch them grow and change as characters, and the book is brilliantly written. The series’ writing staff, including Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, has produced a work of art.”
Ramakrishnan told E! Online (opens in new tab) that he is “of course on side Devi” in the ongoing “Team Paxton vs. Team Ben” discussion.
“I wish nothing but the best for the actress portraying this character, whom I have grown to care about deeply. Messiness be damned if that’s what it takes. Whatever tough choices that may entail, bring them on “her words
For the fourth season, she also said, “Unfortunately, I can’t tell what I’m hoping for, because it already happened. I could not possibly reveal any plot twists! The fourth season is everything I could have hoped for and more.”
Barnet discussed the conclusion that he and Devi came to and revealed that he is on Team Devi in an interview with USA Today(opens in new tab).
When asked about the likelihood of peace between Devi and Paxton, he replied, “Anything is possible in life.” “After ten or twelve years of silence, I’ve re-encountered with old friends and found that we were just as close as before.
It’s possible, but not guaranteed. Though I believe they will remain close friends no matter what. I could totally see them going out on a date. Who can say?”
