During a Livestream from Japan, Hideki Kamiya disclosed the release date of Sol Cresta from Platinum Games.

Hideki Kamiya, who is the Chief game designer and director of Bayonetta, said at the time of the announcement that the sequel is part of Platinum’s push to be a studio that makes “all kinds of fun games, not just action games” and is reportedly a bit of a passion project for the famed designer.

Sol Cresta isn’t the only PlatinumGames title approaching completion. ICYMI, Square Enix recently revealed that PlatinumGames’ co-op dungeon crawler Babylon’s Fall recently went gold. The announcement, which was made in a Livestream, had confirmed the game was “ready for life”, with the game still expected to launch on PS4, PS5, and PC on March 3.

This news follows from the game experiencing a last-minute delay towards the end of 2021, which ended with Kamiya announcing back then a December 9 launch would no longer be possible, as the team needed more time to develop and work on the game.

Sol Cresta Gameplay

PlatinumGames’, a Neo-classic arcade series, carries on the spirit and fun of classic gaming using modern technology, and the first project in this endeavour is Sol Cresta. Sol Cresta brings the docking and formation strategies of classic shooting games Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta and elevates them with the free-form docking system in the new version.

The flagship Yamato, composed of Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susano, can employ various attacks depending on how the three ships are aligned. Docking, splitting, and reforming the ships as needed is essentially the key to conquering and beating the invading armies of Mandler.

The entire humanity had faced a crushing defeat at the hands of Mandler during his invasion of the solar system. Losing the moon and being driven from Earth, they were forced to retreat to Laomedeia, the 12th moon of Neptune.

As their last array of hope, they formed the solar recovery squad SOL CRESTA and placed its fate with the Yamato, a cutting-edge docking battleship.

Sol Cresta System Requirements

While the specs have not been specified yet, we know the game is set to release on the PS4, PS5 and PC versions.

The Cresta series from Platinum has been around since the 1980s. You can also play Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta, two of the franchise’s more recent games, through the Arcade Archives collection on PS4. Sol Cresta is interesting because it started life as an April Fools prank. After playing this prank on fans in 2020, Platinum came back exactly one year later to announce that it was actively developing Sol Cresta.
