The only thing we can count on for sure in this life is that it will eventually come to an end. Even if we accept that death is inevitable and try to make the most of our time here on this strange planet hurtling through space, losing a loved one is never easy, and it can be especially painful to outlive one of one’s own children. The legendary pro wrestler Ric Flair and his son, Reid, had a tragically similar experience.
What Happened To Reid Flair?
Richard Reid Fliehr, better known by his ring name, Reid Flair, began his professional wrestling career at a young age, following in his father’s footsteps. On June 12, 2000, in WCW (which the WWE eventually acquired), he wrestled and defeated Eric Bischoff. In addition, he wrestled alongside his dad in a tag team battle against David Flair and Vince Russo.
Reid competed in indie wrestling promotions like Big Time and Northeast Wrestling in addition to All Japan Pro Wrestling. Reid’s body was discovered on March 29, 2013, at a Residence Inn in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was only 25 years old when he passed suddenly. On June 14, 2013, a few months after Reid Flair’s death, the autopsy results were made public. His death was ruled a drug overdose by the coroner. These two tranquillizers were said to have played a role in his demise.

I remember putting one of my Hall of Fame rings on Reid’s finger after we buried him. At NXT, Hunter once remarked, “I need to talk to you,” and I may have misunderstood his motives. And he invited me into his office where he showed me a replica of Reid’s ring bearing his name. This is a person who is concerned. The time I spent with the Horsemen was double what I spent with Hunter, Flair said.
Flair has gone on record as saying that he gets along great with the McMahons and that The Game (aka Triple H) is one of his closest friends within the family.

“Helping to see young guys get the opportunity to make the main roster, working with people on a daily basis,” Flair said. Moreover, he is one of my three closest pals. I recently ran across him at RAW and TLC and we had a pleasant conversation. Flair and Triple H had a big Evolution storyline that involved the two of them working side by side in the WWE, one that Ric paid homage to on social media in late 2020.
Ric Flair also posted a tweet about his son’s death:

Reid Flair Career
In World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Fliehr competed in two bouts. On October 4, 1998, at the age of ten, he defeated Eric Bischoff. On June 12, 2000, at the age of twelve, he and his father Ric lost a tag team match to David Flair and Vince Russo.
On March 29, 2008, Fliehr appeared in the WWE Hall of Fame. The next night, he made his first WrestleMania appearance with his family supporting Ric Flair in the Hall of Fame. At WrestleMania XXIV, he was a ringside observer as well. In tribute to his father’s work, he and his family made an appearance on Raw the following night. Harley Race was Flair’s trainer all through 2008.
