The enigmatic A-list actor is not known for hogging the spotlight, but throughout the years, Cillian Murphy has revealed some information about his long-term marriage to Yvonne McGuinness.
The renowned Cillian Murphy, who debuted on the acting scene in the late 1990s, has become somewhat of a household name since he starred as Jim in 28 Days Later in 2002. Peaky Blinders also brought Murphy a whole new group of admirers. After six seasons, the famous, depressing Birmingham gang violence series abruptly ended in 2022.
Murphy maintains a low profile in his personal life away from the cameras, although he frequently expresses his love for his wife, Yvonne McGuinness.
Who is Cillian Murphy’s Wife?
Similar to Murphy, McGuiness is a creative arts professional. McGuiness, a visual artist originally from Kilkenny, Ireland, uses a variety of mediums, such as cinema and sculpture, to bring her imaginative ideas to life.
According to the biography section on her website, McGuiness:
“has an interest in embodied experience of place and belonging by staging live, public, interventions and performances which create surreal and dynamic moments of interaction and connection to place, time and communities.”
McGuiness’ work frequently includes assembling sizable groups of people to express a creative message. An example is her 2019 project Before The Last Sun Sets, which used movement to tell the tale of a contentious architectural choice. McGuinness maintains a relatively modest presence online, and a private Instagram account in her name has a meager 152 followers.
Murphy and Mcguinness Toured the World in Their 20s
Before his acting career took off, Murphy participated in several bands as a lifelong music enthusiast. The Irishman decided to pursue an acting profession after being moved by a performance of A Clockwork Orange while he was a student at University College Cork.
Disco Pigs, an Irish theater production, gave the Oppenheimer actor his big break in 1996. Before embarking on an 18-month world tour, Disco Pigs made their debut in Dublin. McGuiness accompanied Murphy on the Disco Pigs tour when they were still dating, an event that Murphy cherishes.
Describing the experience, Murphy told The Guardian in a 2016 interview:
“it (the Disco Pigs tour) was around the same time I met my wife. She came on tour with us.”
“It was so exciting, 20 years ago or whatever it was – we were all just kids, trying to find our way – but such a special, special time.”

Mcguinness and Murphy Moved Their Sons to Ireland
After moving to London in 2001, McGuiness and Murphy married in 2004—nearly ten years after they started their travels together. Before the birth of their second son, Aran, in 2007, the couple welcomed their first son, Malachy, into the world a year later.
In the same interview with The Guardian, Murphy made the famous admission that he and Murphy had transferred their sons from London to Dublin in 2015 and noted that they had acquired British accents.

Peaky Blinders required their father to temporarily relocate to London while working 16-hour days during filming, an experience he referred to as “canceled life,” so Malachy and Aran will likely be relieved by the show’s conclusion.
