- Down the rabbit hole?
The Bloodline Kicked Off SmackDown
The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and The Bloodline opened the broadcast for Friday’s event. With Heyman’s excellent mic work, a regular promo gave up to an incredibly heated scene involving The Head of the Table and the self-described “honorary Use,” Sami Zayn.
The top man in WWE responded by questioning why the lovable loser remained to stick with the faction and why he was sporting a Bloodline jersey after Zayn stopped The Bloodline from leaving and recognized Reigns as his Tribal Chief.
Even though he’s a great heel, Zayn has developed a certain level of respect and equity with the audience. Their anxiety over the unexpectedly severe and potentially dangerous predicament he put himself in manifested itself in a group of tension we don’t often see on WWE programming.
It seemed as though Zayn was about to receive a beating when Jey Uso tore the said shirt off the man he had spent the past month despising. To the dismay of the tag team champion, Reigns gave him his shirt, and to wrap up the sequence; everyone departed the ring together.
This was excellent character work and a compelling illustration of why Reigns has been one of the most alluring wrestlers. He occasionally displays condescension, sarcasm, and dishonesty, but he is always dangerous and can punish anyone who stands in his way. The fans loved it since it fits Zayn’s “simply wants to fit in” persona so well.
They popped when he was mentioned, demonstrating the storytellers’ power over the audience. This will be one heck of a payoff, making Zayn as big a celebrity as he has ever been in WWE, provided the tale is not stretched out for an excessive amount of time. A fantastic television opening part.
Grade: A+
Liv Morgan vs. Lacey Evans
Liv Morgan, the SmackDown Women’s Champion, then engaged Lacey Evans in a non-title match after challenging Ronda Rousey to an Extreme Rules Match. As she dominated the action and forced Morgan to defend himself, the former Marine proved to be a more challenging opponent than anticipated.
However, the victor came back and showed her resilience by finishing Evans with a Codebreaker and an ObLIVion. After the fight, Morgan made fun of the fact that she lacked the alleged “killer instinct” to defeat Rousey, choosing instead to attack her with a kendo staff and knock her into the fence.
She then mentioned Evans through a table after laying him down on a table, scaling the ropes, and leaping off the ring post. The game itself wasn’t much, but everything that followed it was fantastic. Morgan requires a bit of edge.
To avoid a similar reaction to SummerSlam, where she was the improbable champion and was jeered for weeks following the contentious result of the battle, the crowd must think she has a realistic chance of defeating Rousey on October 8. It seemed like the first time in months that the WWE fans had fully backed Morgan, and this went a long way toward proving that.
Result: Morgan pinned Evans
Grade: B
New Day vs. Maximum Male Models
The New Day then engaged in a tag team match with Maximum Male Models’ m.sôör and ma. cé, with Max and Maxxine Dupri watching from ringside. Maxxine unintentionally distracted me. cé during the match’s conclusion, giving New Day their first victory in what felt like a lifetime.
Sadly, this was not at all about Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston. Instead, it was about the deteriorating relationship between Max and the rest of the group as he adamantly struggled to remove his jacket before slamming it to the ground.
Since the MMM act isn’t working right now, and it wouldn’t make sense to further waste the great and captivating actor in his role as Max, let’s hope that this results in LA Knight’s return.
Result: New Day defeated Maximum Male Models
Grade: C
Braun Strowman vs. Otis
The ring was strengthened for the big-man match between Otis and Braun Strowman. Otis narrowly escaped a running powerslam and appeared to have Strowman defeated with a Vader Bomb during the physical confrontation between the Monster Among Monsters and the huge hoss of Alpha Academy.
However, the tribute to the 2022 Hall of Famer was insufficient to knock his opponent out of the match. Strowman fought back and won the game after a valiant struggle. Strowman has a great appearance and is driven to disprove those who voted to release him.
More importantly, his supporters have accepted him. The response from the Salt Lake City crowd shows how popular Strowman is, which is incredibly encouraging for his future ascent back up the WWE rankings.
Result: Strowman defeated Otis
Grade: C+
Drew McIntyre And Karrion Kross Brawl
Drew McIntyre entered the ring to address Karrion Kross and their current problems. He then announced they would face off in a Strap Match at Extreme Rules. McIntyre responded to Kross’s covert attack attempt by beating him down and lashing him with the leather strap.
Kross took down the former WWE champion after an opportunistic Scarlett created a distraction. Kross then used the Kross Jacket submission to put his opponent to sleep. This substantial segment gave Kross more support and illustrated Scarlett’s crucial role in his success.
It also reveals him as a liar, showing that his claims of impending catastrophe depend on her capacity to divert attention. This feud has thus far been quite successful since McIntyre is such a strong babyface, but the bout at Extreme Rules and the booking that results from it will determine the success of the feud.
Grade: B
Raquel Rodriguez vs. Dakota Kai
The next match of the evening pitted Raquel Rodriguez against Dakota Kai of Damage Ctrl. Intimidating her old tag team partner with her strength and size advantage, Rodriguez unleashed on her.
Shotzi entered the ring and attacked Bayley when it seemed like she and Iyo Sky could intervene on Kai’s side. The diversion gave Rodriguez an unexpected advantage over Kai. When Rodriguez and Shotzi approached the squared circle and repelled the heels, the post-match beating by the heels ended.
Damage Ctrl is currently fighting everyone; however, it is much appreciated in this case. If fighting with Bayley and co. as a babyface gets her on television and opens up more opportunities for her, then bring it on.
Shotzi has long been underappreciated and underrated. Given how frequently they engaged in competitive wrestling in the months before the change, the decision to join with Rodriguez is undoubtedly intriguing. To explain her change in attitude and clarify the discrepancies in the story, Shotzi should be permitted to cut a promo.
Result: Rodriguez defeated Kai
Grade: C+
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The Brawling Brutes vs. The Usos
The Usos defended their title as the Undisputed WWE Tag Team champions against Butch and Ridge Holland of The Brawling Brutes in the main event. While the annoying motor mouth Zayn yelled obscenities from a distance, Jimmy and Jey worked over Butch to take over the match.
Despite the beating he received early and frequently, Butch suddenly reentered the bout late, destroying the opponents and putting Jey in danger of a near-fall that left Zayn gasping at ringside. Sheamus interrupted Zayn as he tried to interject late, only to be ambushed by Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser, and Giovanni Vinci of the Imperium.
The onslaught, which served as a warm-up for The Celtic Warrior and The Ring General’s Intercontinental Championship bout the following week, created a distraction that allowed The Usos to regroup and hit Butch with the 1-D to win.

Butch gave his most robust Main Roster performance during this match, which also featured an angle to raise the tension between Sheamus and Gunther II. The level of talent engaged was incredible, Zayn and Jey added to the dissent, and the audience has sufficient evidence to doubt
The Usos claim to be the best wrestling team. A superb match is sufficient to merit a good grade. You can elevate it even further by adding even better storytelling.
Result: The Usos defeated The Brawling Brutes to retain
Grade: A
