What murders people while rationalizing his misdeeds in his mind, has two eyes, and dons a face cap? You guessed it—Joe it’s Goldberg, who has relocated abroad to continue his favorite activity in a new You season. You are a psychological thriller series that follows the life of Joe Goldberg and is based on the books of Caroline Kepnes (Penn Badgley).
In the first season, Joe works as a bookstore manager in New York when he meets and falls in love with Guinevere Beck, a budding author (Elizabeth Lail). Because of his obsession, Joe stalks Beck and kills multiple people to get rid of everyone who comes in the way of their romance.
In Season 2, Joe flees his crimes by moving to Los Angeles and adopting the alias Will Bettelheim. To make his relationship with Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), a chef he meets there, work, he falls back into his old pattern of obsession and murder. But Joe quickly discovers that Love has a terrible side.
By the third season, Joe and Love had tied the knot and relocated to the Madre Linda suburb of California with their baby Henry to raise him and get away with their misdeeds from the previous season.
However, Love goes to great lengths to save her ideal family when Joe reverts to his old habits and fixates on his next-door neighbor Natalie and the local librarian Marienne. When it was initially stated that Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble were creating and writing a television series based on Caroline Kepnes’ book, it was in February 2015.
The show was previously proposed by Berlanti and Gamble to Showtime and Netflix but was rejected. The show was bought by Lifetime, announced in January 2017, and it received a 10-episode straight-to-series order by April. Before the show’s debut in July 2018, Lifetime announced its renewal for a second season.
However, it was revealed in December 2018 that Netflix had acquired the series before its second season and that Lifetime had canceled its renewal. The Netflix debut of You Season 2 earned positive reviews from viewers. It was later revealed that You was among the most-watched Netflix programs of 2019.
The program was given a third season order by Netflix in January 2020 and will premiere on October 15, 2021. Netflix declared that it had renewed the program for a fourth season before the show’s third season even started. You are in the fourth season. It was filmed in London from March 21 through August 27 of 2022.
Produced by Warner Horizon Television, currently known as Warner Bros. Television, You is a joint effort between Berlanti Productions, Alloy Entertainment, and A+E Studios. The program has received nominations for several honors, including the MTV Movie & TV Awards for Best Villain and the Saturn Award for Best Streaming Horror & Thriller Series.
