ED Sheeran’s Wife’s Illness

The death of Ed Sheeran’s best friend, Jamal Edwards, and the bleak prognosis his wife received while carrying their second child have both been publicly discussed.

After telling fans earlier this year that his wife had been diagnosed with a tumor while pregnant, Ed Sheeran, 32, has provided an update on her health.

The Perfect, Celestial, and Shape of You hitmaker opened up to Rolling Stone, talking about his wife’s health, the death of his best friend Jamal Edwards, and how the heartache from both tragedies have affected his mental health.

Ed told the newspaper that his wife Cherry Seaborn was given a tumor diagnosis six months into the birth of their second child, Jupiter.

He said there were discussions about delivering the baby early but that she carried Jupiter to term and underwent “successful” surgery in June 2022.

Jamal Edwards, Ed Sheeran’s closest friend who helped launch his career, passed away unexpectedly shortly after this trying time. “My best friend died,” Ed told Rolling Stone: “And he shouldn’t have done.”

Ed says he entered into a bout of depression following Jamal’s death: “I’ve always had real lows in my life, but it wasn’t until last year that I actually addressed it.”

The celebrity admits in the interview that he began having suicidal thoughts in early March 2022 after the passing of another friend, Shane Warne.

“I felt like I didn’t want to live anymore,” he said: “And I have had that throughout my life.… You’re under the waves drowning. You’re just sort of in this thing. And you can’t get out of it.” He said the feelings felt “selfish” at the time, and he was “embarrassed about it.”

Cherry eventually persuaded Ed to seek therapy after understanding what was happening. According to Rolling Stone, Ed used music as a second type of therapy, and his most recent album, Subtract, essentially reflects what he went through in the previous year.

When Sheeran announced the new album, he shared a message on his social media: “I had been working on Subtract for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be.

Then at the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately how I viewed music and art.”

“Writing songs is my therapy. It helps me make sense of my feelings. I wrote without thought of what the songs would be, I just wrote whatever tumbled out.

And I replaced a decade’s work with my deepest darkest thoughts in just over a week.”The album Minus will be released on May 5th, with its lead song, Eyes Closed, coming out on March 24th.
