On December 26, 2004, Reggie White was spending the night at his Cornelius, North Carolina, home with his family. When Reggie started having difficulty sometime that morning, medical personnel quickly took him to a neighboring hospital in Huntersville, North Carolina, where they declared him dead.

The Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office stated that White’s long-term cardiac and pulmonary sarcoidosis was most likely the cause of her deadly arrhythmia. For most of his career, White was a consistent All-Pro choice and the recipient of two NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards. In his later years, White gained recognition as a great veteran in the locker room and as a responsible teammate.

Other NFL honors for White include one Super Bowl ring, three UPI NFC Defensive Player of the Year Awards, eight first-team All-Pro nominations, five second-team All-Pro selections, and thirteen consecutive Pro Bowl selections.
