Rapper A$AP Yams of America passed away from an accidental drug overdose. Steven Rodriguez, well known by his stage as A$AP Yams or Yamborghini, passed away on January 18, 2015, at the age of 26 at Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn.

Together with A$AP Bari and A$AP Illz, two other New Yorkers, he formed the American rap group A$AP Mob. According to the New York Times, acute combined drug intoxication was the cause of his death.

After it was determined to be an accident, benzodiazepines and opioids were discovered in his system. Following his passing, musicians honored him on social media.

Asap Yams Career

Steven Rodriguez, better known by his stage as A$AP Yams, joined forces with A$AP Bari and A$AP Illz, two other New Yorkers, to form the collective in 2006. Rapper A$AP Rocky from Harlem later joined.

The duo released music videos for Rocky’s tracks “Peso” and “Purple Swag,” which were produced by A$AP Ty Beats, in the summer of 2011. Rocky released his mixtape Live. Love as a follow-up. In October, A$AP inked a record contract with Sony Music Entertainment.

A$AP Yams, together with fellow New Yorkers A$AP Bari and A$AP Illz, created the global hip-hop group A$AP Mob in 2016. Eventually, A$AP Nast, A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, and A$AP Twelvyy came together to form A$AP Mob.

Yams went on to serve as executive producer on numerous albums by A$AP Mob and its members. Additionally, he produced A$AP Mob’s mixtapes and albums, such as LONG.LIVE (2012) and Lord$ Never Worry (2012) as an executive producer.

In 2013, the albums of AT.LONG, A$AP Ferg and Trap Lord were released. END OF THE A$AP (2015). In the 2014 Noisey documentary “A$AP Rockey: SVDDXNLY,” he shared the stage with A$AP Ferg, A$AP Nast, and A$AP Tweelvyy.
