In 2013, he established Zetta Venture Partners, the first early-stage venture fund devoted to funding businesses using artificial intelligence (AI). He has made investments in companies like EventBoard, Domino Data Lab, Kaggle, Inference, and Domo.

In 2023, he was chosen to serve as the chair of the MIT Corporation, the trustee board of the Institute. He has participated in a number of MIT visiting committees and fundraising initiatives, co-chairing the $6.24 billion Campaign for a Better World, among others.

President Obama named him to the PCAST in 2011, and since then, he has provided scientific and technology-related advice to the government.
