Within A 24-Hour Period, Six Youths Were Shot In Three Different D.C.-Area Incidents.

At least six male youths were shot and injured in Washington, DC, in a span of less than 24 hours, according to authorities. These shootings occurred between midday on Sunday and midday on Monday.

By Monday afternoon, the victims were alert and breathing normally. No juvenile victims’ names have been made public and no arrests have been made.

On Sunday at at 1 p.m., the first shooting occurred in the 2600 block of Birney Place SE. The police stated that a “verbal argument” preceded the shooting.

An hour later, a second youngster was shot in the area east of Capitol Hill, across the Anacostia River. According to the police complaint, he reported being shot at by two individuals who drove by in a white vehicle when he was in the 1500 block of Independence Avenue SE.

Then, in the 3400 block of Stanton Road SE, at roughly 4 p.m., two male youths were shot. Officers located one victim with gunshot wounds and rushed him to the hospital. A second victim arrived at the same hospital having been shot.

After 11:15 a.m. on Monday, a male youngster was shot in the 600 block of Otis Place NW, close to the Park View Recreation Center, continuing the trend of violence from the previous day. About an hour after the first juvenile shooting, a second one occurred along 14th Street and Columbia Road NW. Another man was hurt in the shooting as well.

D.C. Council member Trayon White Sr. (D-Ward 8) remarked, “I’m always dismayed anytime I see somebody shot in our city, especially when it’s kids,” and he advocated for additional funding of wraparound services for families, including as after-school programmes. It’s not enough that we’re not doing more to foster the future of our children and our neighbourhoods.

Adults were also targeted in other shootings at the same time, including three men in the 600 block of O Street NW.
