Doctor Who Season 14 Release Date: Who is Starring in the Next Episodes?

There’s no doubt that if you enjoy science fiction, you’ve watched one or more episodes of Doctor Who. The long-running series made its BBC debut in 1963 and lasted for 26 years (1963–1989) before being brought back in 2005.

Six actors have portrayed the Doctor during the current series’ 17-year run. A seventh actor will play the Doctor on the 60th anniversary of the program. Additionally, Neil Patrick Harris has a new, unnamed book. The How I Met Your Mother alum broke the news on Instagram in June 2022 by saying,

“My current gig. Never looked more dashing. Thank you for inviting me into your Whoniverse, @russelltdavies63 . I’ll try my hardest to do my worst. This Doctor has no idea what’s in store. And even if he does… Who cares? Ha ha ha HA ha-ha-ha!”

Here is what we currently know about the forthcoming Doctor Who season.

Doctor Who Season 14 Release Date

Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Who will debut in Season 14 on November 23, 2023. Why was there a delay? The day is notable since it was the original series’ launch day in 1963. Several actors from previous Doctor Who seasons will feature in their special episodes for the jubilee and the 60th-anniversary celebrations.

After Gatwa’s casting was revealed to the world, he said:

“There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling. A mix of deeply honored, beyond excited, and of course a little bit scared.

“This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I will endeavor my utmost to do the same.”

Reacting to her casting, Gibson said (as per Digital Spy):

“Whilst still being in total disbelief, I am beyond honored to be cast as the Doctor’s companion.”

Social media was also used to announce Redgrave’s comeback. Naturally, Redgrave, who portrays Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, has appeared in subsequent episodes of Doctor Who since Season 7.

There will undoubtedly be other cast members for the series and possibly some high-profile guest stars like Steven Fry or Kylie Minogue. Only time will tell, though.

Who is the New Doctor Who?

Jodie Whitaker will be replaced as the 14th Doctor by Ncuti Gatwa in the role. Whitaker created history as the first woman to play the legendary part. Gatwa also makes Whovian history by playing the Doctor for the first time as a black actor. Gatwa is best known for his role as Eric Effiong on Netflix’s S*ex Education.

He was born in Rwanda and raised in Scotland. The next Doctor and his companion’s costumes have been revealed on Twitter, and you can see them below:

What Will Happen in Doctor Who Season 14?

There is currently no official plot for Doctor Who Season 14. However, it seems likely to follow the show’s standard concept of a regenerating Time Lord traveling through time and space with a companion while occasionally rescuing the universe.

As we may anticipate that Tennant will change into Gatwa during the 60th anniversary special, the series will probably discuss the Doctor’s last regeneration. Due to Jemma Redgrave’s reappearance as Kate Stewart, it has also been confirmed that UNIT will make another appearance.

We know that there will be eight episodes in Season 14 and a Christmas special. Even though there are fewer programs here than in most seasons, reintroducing the Christmas Special will thrill many viewers. As Russel T Davies told Doctor Who magazine:

“Okay, that’s fewer episodes than the last full season. But give us time. We have plans, and that’s a promise!”
