Hollow Knight Silksong Release Date: Will It Be on Xbox Game Pass?

We know a surprising amount about the upcoming Metroidvania Hollow Knight: Silksong, the eagerly awaited follow-up to the 2017 indie success. Since its initial reveal in 2019, Silksong has had numerous trailers, made appearances at important Xbox and Nintendo industry showcases, and even had a playable demo at EGX.

Imogen (RPS in peace) could hardly believe this had happened when she wrote about her desire to play Hollow Knight for the first time once more. Naturally, there are a lot of details to take in, which is where we come in.

We’ll go over everything we know about Hollow Knight: Silksong in this guide, including the anticipated release date, gameplay, and plot elements, and whether or not it will be available through Xbox Game Pass.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Release Date

The first half of 2023 is predicted to see the debut of Hollow Knight: Silksong. While that might sound ambitious and Team Cherry’s lack of comment on the subject feels especially notable, their attendance at an Xbox & Bethesda event in 2022 will disclose all.

According to Xbox, all the games featured in the showcase will be released within 12 months. Since it occurred in June 2022, we can anticipate Silksong’s launch before June 2023. For those who doubt Silksong, Xbox promptly tweeted support for this assertion. Their Twitter account confirms that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available in the first half of 2023.

Launch platforms for Hollow Knight: Silksong include the PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Gameplay

Nintendo unveiled the most extended gameplay trailer during their Treehouse portion of the E3 2019 reveal event. With just under 20 minutes of gameplay and information about Hollow Knight: Silksong, the video provides lots of gameplay (including a peek at the Moss Grotto area that was playable at EGX 2019).

To start, here is a summary for series newcomers. The 2D action platformers Hollow Knight and Silksong are exceedingly tricky and draw inspiration from the Souls series by FromSoftware. A network of interconnected zones with powerful bosses and hidden goodies is presented on the Metroidvania-style map.

While Hornet is the main character in Silksong, The Knight is the main character in the original. Hornet, the Knight’s sister, appeared as a boss in the source. The Hornet can run and mantle ledges, making her faster and more agile than the Knight.

She can access higher surfaces thanks to her height advantage over the Knight. From the slower, more methodical platforming of Hollow Knight, this new movement system delivers a significant difference.

With Hornet’s needle enabling attacks with a broader arc, speed also appears to impact fighting significantly. Hornet may also teleport to the needle’s location and throw it, allowing you to maneuver around the air.

In Silksong, healing appears to happen significantly more quickly if you sustain damage, with Hornet able to regain her total health quickly. That stands in stark contrast to the original, where The Knight would gradually cure each mask

Although Silksong might appear more straightforward as a result, we already know that fighting will take center stage. As a result, even though you could first feel more powerful, we should also anticipate that managers will develop novel ways to discipline us.

Uncovering the Secrets of Silksong

Hornet frees herself from her silk shackles in the first trailer. This most likely occurs immediately before Silksong begins, which opens with Hornet being kidnapped and taken to Pharloom. Hornet finds herself at the base of this enigmatic new country, which is “haunted by Silk and Song”—hence the name—as soon as she manages to escape.

To locate a citadel that might store information regarding the circumstances of her capture, Hornet must travel around the realm, scaling the highest points.

Of course, nothing is ever that easy, and the Pharloom bugs also appear to be under some dreadful curse. Hornet will explore this enigma while traveling and look into the disease-threatening Pharloom.

Will Hollow Knight: Silksong Be on Xbox Game Pass?

At launch, Xbox Game Pass will provide Hollow Knight: Silksong for PC and Xbox Series platforms. This information was made public in June 2022 during the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase. For those who haven’t started the series yet, Game Pass now offers Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition.

The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 release known as the Voidheart Edition included all of the original game’s upgrades, including the four free content expansions, in one convenient bundle. The main plot will take around 30 hours to finish, so starting now is advised if you want to be prepared for Silksong when it launches.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Trailer

The Hollow Knight: Silksong announcement trailer, which debuted at E3 2019, may be seen below.

Hornet, a new playable character, appears to come free of some silk ties after a brief scene of her shaking. Then, numerous gameplay snippets of Hornet running throughout the new kingdom of Pharloom are shown.

In those movies, Hornet also demonstrates her new skill set, demonstrating her acrobatic fighting prowess against a variety of new creepy-crawly enemies and bosses. We get small glimpses of new villages as the trailer goes on, as well as a range of new equipment that Hornet can use to explore Pharloom.

Two locations—Deep Docks and the Gilded City—receive much attention in this trailer. Despite having quite different tones, they both appear mechanical.

Deep Docks appears to be far more horrific, with sawblades rushing across the landscape and a flaming red, almost infernal background, even though both are undoubtedly dangerous (this is the sequel to Hollow Knight, after all). On the other side, The Gilded City seems far more abundant.

In the trailer, we see Hornet traversing the area using illustrious, golden elevators, which are beautiful in a “we’re carrying you to your death” way.
