Tim and Stacy respectfully request privacy at this time and are grateful for the support and affection that have always been shown to them, the statement said.

Tim, his teammate on the Red Sox from 2004 to 2007, has been diagnosed with a “aggressive form of brain cancer,” Schilling, 56, revealed on Tuesday’s episode of The Curt Schilling Baseball Show, while Stacy has pancreatic cancer.

Schilling’s announcement was immediately received with outrage on social media.

“F— you, Curt Schilling, that wasn’t your place!” Wife of former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek, Catherine Varitek, tweeted on X (formerly Twitter):  “Pulling for Tim Wakefield and loathing Curt Schilling all at once.”
