ABC Series the Goldbergs Will End After the Season 10
The Goldberg family has completed their tour of the 1980s. The tenth and last season of the family comedy will air on May 3 and serve as the show’s series finale.
This is not shocking at all. Because of rising expenditures and diminishing ratings, it can be difficult to renew series that are that old, and during the past few years, there have been concerns about how long The Goldbergs can continue.
The half-hour, created by Adam F. Goldberg and Sony Pictures TV, is currently the longest-running live-action network comedy series, and given the state of the broadcast industry, it is unlikely that many others will follow it and be able to join the exclusive club of live-action broadcast comedies with the double-digit season, 200+ episode runs.
Wendi McLendon-Covey, an EP and star of The Goldbergs, as well as other members of the original cast Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile, and Hayley Orrantia, all inked new contracts with ABC a year ago.
After a difficult 2021 for the comedy, during which it lost two core cast members, George Segal, who passed away in March from complications from bypass surgery, and Jeff Garlin, who left in December as a result of numerous misconduct allegations and HR investigations, that allowed the network to bring the comedy back for Season 10 and give it a proper ending.
The Goldbergs, which also stars Sam Lerner and Patton Oswalt as the narrator, covers the trials, tribulations, twists, and turns in the life of the dysfunctional but devoted namesake family during the Reagan administration. The Goldbergs’ chaos is worse than ever in Season 10, with everyone moving back into the same house and Beverly (McLendon-Covey) getting used to her new position as Grandmother.
Said Craig Erwich, president, of ABC Entertainment, Hulu, and Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals:
“We are so proud of the 10 years we were able to spend with The Goldbergs,”
“This is an incredible team and we’re so thankful for the joy and entertainment they brought to so many over this time. We look forward to celebrating their final chapter along with the fans in the weeks ahead.”

The Goldbergs has consistently delivered strong ratings for ABC and was based on Goldberg’s own upbringing. The sitcom was relocated to ABC’s iconic Wednesday comedy block where it has aired ever since, primarily starring at 8 PM. It defied expectations in a difficult Tuesday 9 PM time slot during its first season.
Happy Madison, Doug Robinson Productions, and Sony Pictures Television collaborate to develop The Goldbergs. Executive producers include Doug Robinson, Alex Barnow, Chris Bishop, Annette Davis, Mike Sikowitz, David Guarascio, and McLendon-Covey.
Since taking over as showrunners before Season 7 began, Barnow and Bishop have succeeded creator Goldberg in the position. Said McLendon-Covey:
“It’s been an honor to be part of The Goldbergs for the last decade. I’m really proud of what we accomplished with the show, and I’m so lucky to have had such a rewarding experience. I will miss my TV family and every last crew member,”
“Thanks to our brilliant writers for giving us thoughtful story arcs year after year, and for being so collaborative. Thanks to the best EPs in the business. And thanks to all our fans (the Goldnerds) for being so sweet and supportive. My heart is full… But I definitely hope I never see another pair of shoulder pads for the rest of my life.”
