Former President Donald Trump Declares His Intention To Run For President In 2024!
Former President Donald Trump Declares His Intention To Run For President In 2024: On Tuesday, Donald Trump announced his intention to run for president a third time, igniting a bitter Republican primary fight after his hand-picked candidates’ dismal midterm election performances made him look less powerful.
At his opulent Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, the 76-year-old former President declared to hundreds of supporters gathered there that “America’s comeback starts right now.” The U.S. election administration received Mr Trump’s official candidacy paperwork just before he was scheduled to make his campaign announcement in public.
Washington officials interpret Mr Trump’s unusually early entry into the presidential race as an effort to gain an advantage over other Republicans running for the position of the party’s standard-bearer in 2024 and to avoid possible legal troubles.
After disappointing midterm results that were largely attributed to the underperformance of Mr Trump’s chosen candidates, Republicans are licking their wounds. Some are openly doubting whether Mr Trump, with his divisive brand of politics and tangle of legal issues, is the right candidate to represent the party the next time around.
The governor of Florida Ron DeSantis, who defied the odds and won a stunning victory on November 8, is the most prominent of the potential 2024 primary competitors. After being twice impeached by the House of Representatives and losing the 2020 election to Democrat Joe Biden, Mr Trump is starting his latest run for the White House with several possible disadvantages.
Numerous inquiries are being made into his behaviour before, during, and after his first tenure as president; these inquiries could ultimately lead to his disqualification. Allegations of fraud by his family business, his participation in the assault on the U.S. Capitol last year, his attempt to rig the 2020 election, and his storage of confidential materials at Mar-a-Lago are a few of these.
Merrick Garland, Mr Biden’s attorney general, may be forced to appoint a special counsel to carry out the many investigations of the former president that the Department of Justice has commenced now that Trump has officially declared his candidacy.
Additionally, Mr Trump has appeared to be abandoned by the influential media conglomerate of Rupert Murdoch, who described him as a “failure” with “increasingly terrible judgment” following the midterm elections.

Facebook and Twitter, which were crucial in Mr Trump’s spectacular electoral rise, continue to block him. The real estate magnate continues to have unquestionable favour among the millions of grassroots followers who have flocked to his “Make America Great Again” flag, despite the poor electoral performance by Mr Trump’s backers.
And despite losing the support of numerous influential Republican contributors, he has created a war chest for his campaign that is well over $100 million. Mr Trump established denial of the 2020 election results as a crucial qualification for receiving his support in the run-up to the midterm elections.
But Trump’s most devoted allies suffered a run of setbacks that diminished his support before his launch on Tuesday. Outgoing congresswoman Liz Cheney, a staunch Republican critic of Mr Trump, said, “This is not the rollout I’m sure Donald Trump wanted for his statement tonight.”
Republicans are edging closer to a likely takeover of the House after failing to seize control of the Senate, but they do so with a slender majority that will be challenging to control. The 79-year-old Joe Biden, whose victory Mr Trump continues to deny, has declared his intention to run for a second term but will make a final decision early in 2019.

The formerly devoted vice president of Mr Trump, Mike Pence, who published a new book on Tuesday titled “So Help Me God” and is anticipated to run against him in the 2024 election, told ABC News this week that Mr Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021, had been “reckless.”
However, Mr Pence refrained from openly addressing whether Mr Trump should run for office again. He replied, “I hope we’ll have better choices in the future. That’s up to the American people.
In a Republican lineup that may also include Vice President Pence, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and former Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley, the hard-right DeSantis now appears to be Mr Trump’s main rival.
When asked about the former President’s criticism of him on Tuesday, Mr DeSantis, 44, who Mr Trump has dubbed “Ron DeSanctimonious,” had a quick response, advising “people to go check at the scoreboard from last Tuesday night.”
He also stated that a Republican ticket led by the former president would struggle to win over independent voters “even with Mr Biden in the White House and the failures that we’re seeing,” without specifically mentioning Mr Trump.
Grover Cleveland was elected in 1884, defeated in 1888, and then won again in 1892. Mr Trump is attempting to become only the second American president to serve non-consecutive terms by entering the race.
