Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S. Arrives for the First Time in US Theaters

The TOHO movie Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. is stomping into U.S. theaters for the first time in commemorating its 20th anniversary from Fathom Events.

According to the franchise’s official Twitter page. This is good news for fans of the titular King of the Monsters. The movie will be shown on March 22 for just one night, and tickets can now be ordered in advance. This is not the first time Fathom Events has held a domestic public screening of Godzilla.

Godzilla Versus Mechagodzilla, the movie’s forerunner, was recently screened on Godzilla Day in honor of its 20th birthday. In addition to the upcoming showing of the film, a short called Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex, which first aired at the 2022 Japan Godzilla Festival, will be shown before the movie, giving fans one more excuse to watch the kaiju classic on the big screen.

The movie is a direct sequel to Godzilla Versus Mechagodzilla, a soft reboot of the series centered on Mechagodzilla, who must battle the King of the Monsters. Mechagodzilla was constructed using the remains of the original Godzilla from 1954.

The movie made its 2003 Japanese theater debut and is frequently cited as a fan favorite of the franchise’s millennium series because of its entertaining, action-packed scenes. Fans will finally experience the kaiju-sized extravaganza as it was intended to be seen now that the film will be released in the U.S.

The news is simply the most recent in a string of updates on the King of Monsters. The character’s production house, TOHO Studios, revealed last year that a fresh live-action Godzilla movie would be coming out on November 3, the 69th anniversary of the series.

No other information has been provided, but the movie will be the first live-action Godzilla movie from TOHO since the 2016 release of Shin Godzilla. Legendary Pictures’ Monsterverse series will continue to grow in addition to the impending remake with the March 15, 2024, release of the unnamed Godzilla vs. Kong sequel.
