Ramsay spent $6.75 million buying a house in Bel-Air, Los Angeles, in 2012. The 7,413-square-foot estate includes a swimming pool, five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a state-of-the-art luxury kitchen.

He also has a house in London that he paid $3.5 million for in 2002 and at least three houses in the English beach town of Fowey for which he paid a total of $13 million for. His most remarkable Fowey property was bought for roughly $6 million in 2015.

Afterward, he spent a lot of money on improvements, which included building a sizable pool with an ocean view and a transparent wall. Around $100,000 was spent on the translucent fence alone.

Gordon Ramsay Career

Ramsay served as a commis chef at the Wroxton House Hotel in the middle of the 1980s. He managed the Wickham Arms’ kitchen and 60-seat dining room from there. He next relocated to London, where he worked in several restaurants until he was hired to work at Harvey’s for the renowned volatile chef Marco Pierre White.

Before getting sick of White’s “rages, the bullying, and the violence,” he spent two years and ten months working at Harvey’s. In Mayfair, where he worked for Albert Roux and Le Gavroche and met Jean-Claude Breton, who is now his maitre d’hôtel at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Ramsay opted to learn French cooking.

After Ramsay spent a year working at Le Gavroche, Roux persuaded Ramsay to join him as his number two at Hotel Diva, a ski resort in the French Alps. From there, the then 23-year-old Ramsay relocated to Paris to work with Michelin-starred chefs Guy Savoy and Joel Robuchon. For three years, he continued his training in France.

After taking a year off to work as a private chef on a boat, Ramsay returned to London and was appointed head chef at La Tante Claire in Chelsea under three-Michelin-starred chef Pierre Koffman. Soon after, Ramsay’s previous employer Marco Pierre White offered to hire him as the head chef at the Rossmore in exchange for a 10% share.

Ramsay renamed the restaurant Aubergine and gained his first Michelin star 14 months later. The restaurant Aubergine got a second Michelin star in 1997. Due to differences of opinion over the course that the business should take, Ramsay quit the partnership in the summer of 1998.

Ramsay started his eatery, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, in London’s Chelsea district that same year. When the cafe received its third Michelin star in 2001, Ramsay became the first Scotsman to do so. From then, his empire quickly grew.

He started his American TV show “Hell’s Kitchen,” joined the Food Network, and conquered the globe one dinner plate at a time while opening (and closing) several well-known restaurants.

As of 2015, his restaurants were in West Hollywood at the renowned London Hotel on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. He also has eateries in Dubai, Tokyo, London, New York City, Ireland, and Canada.
