Is Kevin Costner Leaving Yellowstone? In Some Ways, That May Not Be a Bad Thing!

Following the report on Monday that Kevin Costner wants to work just one week on the final eight episodes of Season 5 of Yellowstone, Paramount Network reportedly considered putting the show on the shelf. My jaw dropped to the floor. 2. I felt a little eager. Not that I can wait to watch Costner ride off into the distance.

A scenario in which the patriarch of the Dutton family, John, is laid to rest seems to have a lot of potentials because every other character either wants to win John’s approval or give him hell. (Occasionally both.) Consider this.

Beth is free if John is taken out of the picture. She is no longer required to base her entire existence on her father and his preferences. Kayce could either take control of the ranch and operate it his way or relocate his family far away from the area that has caused them such anguish.

And can you picture what would happen to Jamie if, for once, he was permitted to move without being followed by his adoptive father, who despises him?

Suppose Paramount Network does move this version of Yellowstone to the train station, according to Deadline. In that case, it is exploring having the show continue in a different format, maybe starring Matthew McConaughey. I don’t think a new version is necessary if Costner leaves the stage to the left.

Bring in McConaughey or another A-lister, and that’s OK, but let’s watch the character attempt to settle down on the range in present-day Yellowstone. Same performance, different actor in the lead role.

At this point, nobody is watching Costner anyhow. The 2023 Golden Globe winner was the “name” that brought viewers to their sofas when Yellowstone premiered. But right now, Kelly Reilly’s antics as Beth has us chatting at the water cooler (or in the office Slack channel, as the case may be).

The following is a tweet that Yellowstone just sent out on Us Weekly:

Everyone is curious about what will happen to John, but they are also interested in what will happen to Beth, Rip, Kayce, and even Jimmy.
