Los Angeles Dodgers Extend Apology And Extend Invitation To Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence For Pride Night
After receiving significant pushback from queer organizations, the Los Angeles Dodgers have invited the drag charity Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to participate in Pride Night next month.
After Sen. Marco Rubio and other conservatives voiced their disapproval of the drag nun charity, the baseball team issued a statement on Monday evening apologizing to the organization for withdrawing them from the event.
“After much thoughtful feedback from our diverse communities, honest conversations within the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and generous discussions with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the Los Angeles Dodgers would like to offer our sincerest apologies to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, members of the LGBTQ+ community and their friends and families,” the group stated with its emblem rendered in the colors of the Pride flag.
“We have asked the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to take their place on the field at our 10th annual LGBTQ+ Pride Night on June 16th,” The statement went on in this manner. “We are pleased to share that they have agreed to receive the gratitude of our collective communities for the lifesaving work that they have done tirelessly for decades.”

The team pledged to collaborate with LGBTQ groups to “better educate ourselves, find ways to strengthen the ties that bind, and use our platform to support all of our fans who make up the diversity of the Dodgers family.”
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have recently made public their appreciation for the “full apology and explanation” they received from the Dodgers, calling their attempt at contrition “sincere.”
“In the future, if similar pressures from outside our community arise, our two organizations will consult each other in responding,” The group composed a letter. “This affair has been an opportunity for learning with a silver lining.”
The new development comes only days after LA Pride, the city’s most prominent LGBTQ organization, backed out of the Dodgers event, expressing their unhappiness with the Sisters’ absence. Following the announcement by the Dodgers to re-invite the Sisters, LA Pride stated that they would “stand in solidarity” with the organization on Pride Night.
“The Los Angeles Dodgers have taken a good first step toward their commitment to the LGBTQ+ community by renewing their invite,” LA Pride stated. “We fully support the Sisters receiving their much-deserved Community Hero Award… They continue to inspire us with their grace.”

The Los Angeles LGBT Center had also withdrawn from the event, claiming they were “deeply disappointed” with the Dodgers and demanding the concert be canceled if the Sisters were not invited back. After the Dodgers apologized, the Center decided to attend the event.
“Today’s decision by the Dodgers to publicly apologize to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and roll back their exclusion from next month’s Pride Night is a step in the right direction, and we support the Sisters’ vote to accept their much-deserved Community Hero Award,” Monday, the Center released a statement to Rolling Stone in which said.

After conservatives were furious that they would be performing, the Dodgers stated last Wednesday that they would withdraw the charity drag group from Pride Night “to not distract from the event’s great benefits. “ (After the Dodgers announced that the group would get a Community Hero Award, Rubio sent a sour letter to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. According to their website, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are an order of “queer and trans nuns” dedicated to “community service, ministry, and outreach to those on the margins, as well as promoting human rights, respect for diversity, and spiritual enlightenment.”
The organization has recovered religious attire to push for LGBTQ equality and to expose the church, which stigmatized homos*xual people during the A!DS pandemic.
In a statement, the San Francisco chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence voiced “deep offense and outrage” at some of the rhetoric directed towards the group days after the Dodgers’ decision.
“The Sisters are not anti-Catholic, but an organization based on love, acceptance, and celebrating human diversity,” The group composed a letter. “To be condemned by representatives of the Catholic Church is particularly ironic, given that organization’s long history of condoning and concealing the sexual abuse of children.”
