He transferred to FIU in the summer of 2022, hoping to compete for a starting spot as a linebacker for the Panthers. He wore the number 16 jersey, the same number that his brother Dawson wore at Ole Miss.

According to Florida International University (FIU), where Luke was a linebacker, he was found unresponsive in his dorm room by a teammate on the evening of August 17. FIU police officers arrived at the scene and attempted CPR until rescue personnel took over and transported him to a nearby hospital. He later died at the hospital.

The cause of death has not been revealed by the authorities yet. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office is in charge of the investigation, but they have not publicized any details as of now. The police have ruled out foul play as a factor in his death.

Luke’s death devastated his family and friends, who remembered him as a loving, caring, and faithful person. His brother Dawson posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, saying that Luke was not lost because he knew he was with God and that he would see him again one day.
