Uber Soca Cruise Accident: Passenger Loses Foot to Vessel Propeller!

When a man passenger’s lower leg was amputated in a watercraft accident on Tuesday, it soured the fun and excitement of the UberSoca Cruise’s sailing trip to St. Maarten.

The passenger in question unexpectedly slipped in between the pier and the water taxi, causing the blade from the propeller of the vehicle to severely injure his leg, according to police spokesperson Ethelwoldus Josepha, who spoke to The Daily Herald.

It is unclear whether the passenger was exiting or boarding the water taxi at the time. The man’s lower right leg appeared to have been severed in pictures and videos of the incident that were going viral on social media.

The injured man is seen being lifted from the pier in videos and pictures with his leg first bandaged and then subsequently knotted to stop the bleeding.

According to Josepha, the passenger received medical assistance at the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC). The passenger, he stated, is still alive.

The first UberSoca Cruise set out from Puerto Rico on April 9 to April 14, 2023, and stopped in the US Virgin Islands (USVI), St. Maarten, and St. Lucia.
