Buffett placed his first significant wager on the Government Employees Insurance Company in April 1952, when it was still a tiny and struggling insurance provider—currently going by the name GEICO. The company was trading above the worth of its assets, so it was not a good deal.

Buffett examined the company and noted its rapid expansion. He was sure he could figure out how much the insurance company would be worth in a few years. He took over GEICO with three-quarters of the money he had painstakingly and methodically amassed up to that moment. Geico is now entirely owned by Berkshire.

He became the company’s principal shareholder in 1970 and assumed the role of Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, a position he continues to occupy today.

Buffett started an aggressive series of acquisitions, takeovers, and restructuring actions through Berkshire Hathaway, which caused his assets to skyrocket. He further cemented his standing as an investor to keep an eye on and emulate. Everything he touched seems to turn to gold.
