Nier: Automata Was One of the First Postponements From Winter Slate

The NieR: Automata Ver1.1a anime adaptation’s episode 4 was initially postponed indefinitely owing to a COVID-19 outbreak within the A-1 Pictures animation studio, as the official Japanese website reported. In a statement shared to both the website and Twitter pages, it was confirmed that:

“Postponement of Broadcast and Distribution Due to the Effects of the Spread of the New Coronavirus.”

A-1 Pictures, via official website: 

“Due to the impact on the video production schedule caused by the spread of the new coronavirus “COVID-19”, we have decided to postpone the broadcast and distribution of episodes 4 and onward.”

The production team concluded the statement by adding:

“Although this measure is based on unforeseen circumstances, we apologize for any inconvenience and concern this may cause to the fans who have been looking forward to the work. We appreciate your understanding.”

Director of the NieR video games Yoko Taro stated,

“So, about episode 4 and onwards. it’s because of THAT thing that happened that now we’ll have to wait a bit longer…”

This wasn’t the first title from the current 2023 Winter slate to be postponed due to the resurging coronavirus pandemic, which is concerning to anime fans everywhere.
