What Is The Meaning Of Taylor Swift’s Song “Ronan”?
“Ronan,” a charity single initially released in September 2012, is one of the tracks that Taylor has re-issued years after they were first heard. While “Ronan” is based on a true story, unlike many of her other songs, it has nothing to do with teenage love or heartbreak. Instead, “Ronan,” tells the tale of a little child who passed away in 2011 from stage IV neuroblastoma.
After reading Maya Thompson’s blog, Taylor initially composed the song. Ronan’s mother, Maya, wrote about her relationship with her son from his diagnosis in 2010 until his passing.
After Ronan passed away, Maya continued the Rockstar Ronan blog as she dealt with her loss and started the Ronan Thompson Foundation to support initiatives that deal with childhood cancer.
Taylor Wrote “Ronan” Using Quotes From Maya Thompson’s Blog
Maya’s blog was the source of many “Ronan” lyrics and she was given co-writing credit for the song. The song’s sales are donated entirely to the fight against cancer.

When Taylor invited Maya to a concert in Glendale, Arizona, in 2011, they got to know one another. Maya detailed her emotions when Taylor revealed that she had created a song based on her son’s tale in a blog post about the incident.
“My calmness soon turned to complete and utter frozen shock when these words came out of her mouth,” Maya wrote.
“‘I wrote a song for Ronan.’ The tears started pouring down my cheeks as soon as I heard her say those words. But her words didn’t stop there. Not only did she write a song for you, but she wanted to know if it would be alright to perform it on the nationally televised show.”
