Episode 4 of The Last of Us is Popular With Viewers of New Series

The fourth episode of “The Last of Us” established a new series record. The number of viewers who watched Sunday night’s program increased by 17% from 6.4 million who watched Episode 3 to 7.5 million.

It is noteworthy that the show’s audience is still expanding because Episode 4 of the series aired on HBO and was made available on HBO Max during the broadcast of the 65th Grammy Awards, drawing 12.4 million viewers—its most significant audience since 2020.

However, a sizable portion of viewers opted to stream the newest episode of “The Last of Us” or watch “The Last of Us” in its place after the three-hour awards event. Also noteworthy is that “The Last of Us” is rising more quickly than “House of the Dragon,” HBO’s most recent viewership-equivalent series.

It’s noteworthy that “House of the Dragon’s” cable viewership substantially decreased by its third episode before stabilizing for the remainder of its run, even though “The Last of Us” has yet to match “House of the Dragon’s” initial audience of almost 10 million people. The Super Bowl, usually the most-watched show of the year, will compete directly with the fifth episode of “The Last of Us,” but HBO has minimized that issue with a new release method. Episode 5 will be available on HBO Max on Friday, February 10, two days before it airs on television, the network revealed on Sunday.

Viewers will have the entire weekend to watch the episode before the big game. It appears that “The Last of Us” may yet be able to surpass itself the following week given the early streaming debut and overall popularity of the series thus far.

Without changing its streaming schedule, “Euphoria” broadcasted the sixth episode of its second season during the Super Bowl last year and still reached a series high. “The Last of Us” has outperformed “Euphoria’s” audience by millions.
