Katie Cotton Cancer: Apple Mourns the Loss of Katie Guardian of the Brand for 18 Years!
Cotton left Apple in 2014 after working there for 18 years. In 1988, she traveled from New Jersey to California, “eager to leave her stamp on the world.” So she did, according to her obituary. Katie Cotton, a former Apple vice president of global corporate communications, passed away on April 6 at 57.
Apple said that Cotton “was an extraordinary person and she made countless contributions over her two-decade career” at the company. She and late Apple cofounder and CEO Steve Jobs shared the top spot on PRWeek’s Power List in 2010[as deleted now]. When Jobs passed away in October 2011 at age 56 after a fight with pancreatic cancer, she reentered the rankings multiple times, including in 2012.
In 2010, Cotton was included on CNNMoney’s list of the 50 Most Influential Women, where it was stated that in addition to serving as Jobs’ gatekeeper, she “had a hand in some of the most buzzed-about product launches in technology.”
Wherever Jobs is, Cotton isn’t far away, the website said in a 2011 profile of Apple executives. “[Cotton] was a strong and unwavering proponent for [Apple], helping to elevate its products and brand,” her obituary said. “In retirement, she raised awareness for mental health education for children by volunteering in local community organizations.”
