Kristin Chenoweth has long drawn admiration from audiences by performing in well-liked Broadway productions like Wicked, but Josh Bryant, a musician from Nashville, has her heart.

A wedding—two weddings—started their relationship. The two first connected in 2016 at the niece of the Holidate star’s wedding. Backroad Anthem, Bryant’s band, was scheduled to play.

When Chenoweth’s nephew got married two years later, and Backroad Anthem provided the musical entertainment, Chenoweth and Bryant were once again forced to cross paths.

During a guest interview on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, the actress described how she first met Bryant and how they ultimately became romantically involved.

“I noticed him and he noticed me, but we were dαting other people. And then, the next summer, my nephew gets married and hires the same band and we re-met,” Chenoweth recalled.

Chenoweth and Bryant made friends after their initial encounter during her niece’s wedding. Backroad Anthem was also requested for Chenoweth’s nephew’s wedding, which took place over two years later.

“We had become online friends. I just got to know the whole band because, you know, that’s my people — my tribe,” Chenoweth said on The Jess Cagle Show about meeting Bryant. “And we became friends so by the time we met at that second wedding is when sparks flew.”

Bryant shouted from off-camera during the same interview, confirming that the two began dαting on August 3, 2018. “He’s so awesome. He’s a good guy and he’s a great musician,” she remarked.

The age gap between Chenoweth and Bryant is not a big deal to them. The actress makes jokes about it from time to time. In an interview with PEOPLE in November 2020, she joked about their age difference.

“My boyfriend is 14 years younger than me. Thus, I’m good at TikTok,” she joked. “I didn’t know what TikTok was, I didn’t necessarily want to do TikTok. Now I love TikTok with his help.”
