Shonka Dukureh Cause of Death: Her Sudden Passing Revealed at 44!
Shonka Dukureh, an actress and singer, made her big-screen debut this year in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis before tragically passing away soon after the movie’s release. The cause of her de@th at the age of 44 has now been made public.
Dukureh passed away naturally, according to the Davidson County Medical Examiner’s office in Tennessee. According to a report, the diagnosis was “hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.”
Atherosclerosis is the deposition of lipids, cholesterol, and other compounds in and on the arterial walls that causes arteries to constrict, impede blood flow, and perhaps burst, resulting in a blood clot; high blood pressure is another word for hypertension.

On July 21, Dukureh’s body was discovered in her Nashville residence; no foul play was believed to be involved, according to the police. The medical examiner declared her de@th “natural” and listed reasons that contributed to it as high blood pressure and artery thickness brought on by plaque buildup.
“Shonka was just starting to find a larger audience for her tremendous talent, and I got to see her uplift whole crowds of people at Coachella and beyond,” Luhrmann wrote about Dukureh after her loss. “A favorite word of Shonka’s, in daily use, was ‘blessings,’ and I, along with the entire Elvis cast, crew, and musical collaborators, feel truly blessed to have had time with her.”

Elvis, starring Dukureh as Big Mama Thornton, the legendary R&B singer-songwriter who initially released “Hound Dog,” was the Nashville native’s first movie. She was additionally visible in the Elvis soundtrack song “Vegas” by Doja Cat earlier this year.
Along with her work with Elvis, Dukureh also recorded and sang backup vocals for a number of artists, including Nick Cave, Mike Farris, Jamie Lidell, the Royal Pharaohs, and many more. She also intended to release her debut full-length record before her away.
