Virgin River Season 5 Release Date: When is It Going to Be Available?

Virgin River, a smash sensation on Netflix, has a retro vibe that draws inspiration from vintage small-town shows like Friday Night Lights and Dawson’s Creek.

Although the pace is languid, the romance is slow-burning, and there aren’t many electronics to be found, Netflix moved quickly to capitalize on its unexpected success by swiftly renewing Virgin River for seasons four and five after the release of season three.

Virgin River’s fourth season was rushed through, and viewers are eagerly awaiting season five and the potential content of that season. On that front, we have both good and bad news: Unexpectedly, the fifth season’s filming was delayed by four months, from March 2022 to July 2022.

Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Mel, let slip to Glamour during a conversation about This Is Us that Virgin River had been delayed. She said of This Is Us, which ended earlier in 2022:

“They’ve been trying to get me to come back since I’ve been on Virgin River,”

“We were supposed to start shooting season five of Virgin River in March, but it was pushed to July. So had we started when we were supposed to, I don’t know that Sophie and Kevin [of This Is Us] would’ve ended up together.”

The good news is Virgin River season 5 filming started in British Columbia in July 2023, according to What’s on Netflix. Filming formally wrapped in late November of 2023, with the official Virgin River Instagram sharing, “That’s a WRAP on Season 5! “

Virgin River Season 5 Release Date

Virgin River’s third and fourth seasons, published in July 2021 and July 2022, respectively, were separated by a year, indicating that Netflix plans to release one new season of the show each year. This suggests that, if we’re lucky, season five might be made available as early as July 2023.

How about upcoming seasons? There will be plenty of them. For starters, the Robyn Carr book series, on which the show is based, contains 24 (yes, 24) Virgin River novels. For another, Howe told Deadline:

“We’re paying very close attention, understanding that this is a really rich universe of characters and that people can’t seem to get enough, myself included. So I think as long as that continues to be the case—which we’re very hopeful for—you can rest assured that there will be more Virgin River.”
