Who are Zach Edey Parents? Meet her Mom & Dad!

Zach Edey, a Canadian basketball player, is presently the Center for the Purdue Boilermakers of Purdue University in Indiana, USA. Edey, who was born on May 14, 2002, in Toronto, Ontario, excelled in baseball and hockey before deciding to pursue a basketball career. Despite having scholarship offers from Santa Clara and Baylor, he picked Purdue.

Edey has had a fantastic career with the Purdue Boilermakers, garnering honors such as National College Player of the Year, Big Ten Tournament MVP, and Big Ten Player of the Year in 2023. In addition, he will represent Canada in the FIBA Under-19 World Cup in Latvia, Europe, in 2021.

Zach Edey’s Mother

Julia Edey is Zach Edey’s mother. She played basketball in high school and is now a mechanical engineer who enjoys gardening and beekeeping. Julia has had a big impact on Zach’s basketball career, having attended all of his seasons at Purdue.

She also designed t-shirts with the nickname “The Big Maple,” emphasizing Zach’s height and weight, in order to rally more support for him. Julia works extremely hard to promote her son’s basketball abilities.

Zach Edey’s Father

Glen Edey is Zach’s father, and he works as an assistant coach in a young baseball league. He developed a profound affinity for the game as a child.

From Rookie to Rockstar

Before reaching 10th grade, the basketball player tried baseball and hockey to get better at the game. Luckily, during high school, the Northern Kings AAU program in Toronto noticed him.

Later on, he moved to the IMG Academy in Florida for the last two years of high school before joining Purdue. By then, he was already the 483rd ranked high school player.

Reflecting on his early days, he said,

“I remember learning basic stuff that seemed complicated, like a hook shot and the right-left layup. It was challenging. I had to practice a lot to get the hang of it in 10th grade. I was new to the game and had a lot to catch up on.”

Despite starting behind, he’s now a key player for the Canadian men’s senior national team, the youngest among them. They recently qualified for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Although he plays for Purdue Boilermakers, he also received offers from teams like Santa Clara and Baylor.
