Andor Season 2 Release Date: What Time Will It Be Back on Disney+?

It’s difficult to think that Andor’s first season is ending this week. The first season of Tony Gilroy’s prequel series Rogue One, which consists of 12 episodes, fundamentally rewrites what Star Wars is capable of, not just in terms of television but also in terms of storytelling.

When Collider’s own Steve Weintraub got down to talk with Gilroy about the series with the conclusion approaching, he naturally posed the most important question of all. When can viewers anticipate Season 2?

Gilroy told us earlier this month that Season 2 filming would start this week, and it would wrap up in August 2023, making it unlikely that the show would return before the end of the year. A series like Andor involves extensive VFX work, and accelerated post-production schedules come with a big price tag.

While some shows can wrap on filming, get right into post-production, and get episodes on television within a few months. Gilroy said the following throughout the conversation:

Someone would have to say:

“The only place you can accelerate the processes is in post, and the only way you can accelerate in post is with money, and money is tight. So, I don’t really know, there would have to be some serious motivation next May or June or something”

“Wow, we really need this, and we’re willing to pay X. Rogue One proved, if you throw money at it, you can do post really, really fast. It’s just very, very, very expensive.”

Ultimately, Seasons 2 and 3 of Andor will follow the same timetable as Season 1, which took around three years from filming to its broadcast. Gilroy explained:

“If past is predicate, and we do the same thing we did before, it’ll be on the same schedule. It will come out two years later.”

While we might prefer to see Andor on our screens as soon as possible, it will probably return in 2024. And if the past truly serves as a guide, it will probably show mid- to late 2024.

Looking Ahead at Andor Season 2

It’s logical to presume that Diego Luna, Duncan Pow, and Genevieve O’Reilly are on the cast list for Season 2, given their performances in Rogue One. Still, we won’t know until filming for the much-anticipated season begins this week.

Although it’s unknown if Adria Arjona, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough, Elizabeth Dulau, Faye Marsay, and Varada Sethu will survive the finale, Stellan Skarsgard will probably return since he was the first to announce that the series would return for a second season.
