Beyond Paradise Episode 1 Cast: Who is in New BBC Series?

The Death in Paradise spin-off Beyond Paradise is finally scheduled to premiere on television after months of gently building anticipation, but who will join Kris Marshall in the episode 1 cast?

Since it debuted in 2011, Death In Paradise has given viewers some much-needed winter sun. Now, the detective drama is getting a spin-off in the form of Beyond Paradise, which brings murder mystery back to the UK.

With a variety of new and recognizable personalities making up the eclectic cast, the new BBC series reunites viewers with Kris Marshall’s Humphrey Goodman as he accepts a new DI assignment in a charming Devon village.

Beyond Paradise Episode 1 Cast

Similar to the first Death in Paradise series, Beyond Paradise will follow a core group of people over the whole run, with episode 1 also introducing several guest stars.

Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman

Kris Marshall, who played DI Humphrey Goodman in Death in Paradise from series three through six, is reprising the role. In his spare time, Marshall, who plays the quirky investigator, has been in a range of productions, including the historical drama Sanditon, the holiday rom-com Love Actually, and the comedies Citizen Khan and My Family.

Sally Bretton as Martha Lloyd

After her characters Martha and Humphrey left Saint Marie to establish a new life in the UK, Sally Bretton is another Death in Paradise returnee. After relocating to Shipton Abbott to be nearer to her mother after her father’s passing, Martha starts the new series looking for the ideal site to operate her café.

The actress has been a constant on our screens for more than 20 years with major appearances appearing in Green Wing, Absolute Power and Not Going Out where she’s played the character Lucy since 2007.

Zahra Ahmadi as DS Esther Williams

In the movie Beyond Paradise, Zahra Ahmadi plays DS Esther Williams, one of Humphrey’s new coworkers who need some convincing about her newly assigned DI.

The Plymouth-born actress has around 40 parts to her name, with significant performances coming in ITV’s The Bay, The Beast Must Die, Tracey Ullman’s Show, Innocent, Count Arthur Strong, EastEnders, and even an episode of Death In Paradise back in 2018’s series 7.

Dylan Llewellyn as PC Kelby Hartford

PC Kelby Hartford, born and raised in Shipton Abbott and a valuable addition to the Shipton Abbey police department, is another. As a result, many of the offenders he arrests are familiar to him.

Dylan Llewellyn, an actor from Surrey who played James in Derry Girl and has also been in Hollyoaks, Holby City, the animated sitcom Dodo, and the Channel 4 comedy Big Boys, will play the part.

Felicity Montagu as Office Support Margo Martins

Felicity Montagu takes on the role of Margo Martins in Beyond Paradise, serving as the police force’s Office Support, manning the phones, and helping to run a tight ship that is rocked by Humphrey’s arrival.

Her previous roles in Sky’s Landscapers, The Durrells, The Tunnel, Vanity Fair, Doc Martin, Suburban Shootout, and Nighty Night will be familiar to fans. The actress, who was born in Leeds, is also known for her work on several Alan Partridge projects.

Barbara Flynn as Anne Lloyd

Anne Lloyd, Martha’s recently widowed mother, was the last significant cast member to be revealed in episode 1. Throughout a 50-year career that started with a part in A Family At War, Barbara Flynn has played over 80 roles.

She has appeared in Open All Hours as the Milk Lady, Cracker as Judith Fitzgerald, Cranford, The Durrells, Doctor Who, Kate & Koji, and 2006’s Miss Potter. Another actress, Barbara, appeared in the second episode of season nine of Death In Paradise.

Montserrat Lombard as Gwen Tyler

Prior roles include Selena in Raw, Milly in Love Soup, Shaz in Ashes To Ashes, several characters in Neil Gaiman’s Likely Tales, and Emilia in Upstart Crow.

Davood Ghadami as Ben Tyler

Kush Kazemi from EastEnders, Eli Ebrahimi from Holby City, Aran Chandar from Doctors, Duncan Clark from Taggart, and Nitin Shamsie from The Chelsea Detective are actors with prior television credits.
