Dedric Willoughby Basketball Journey

Dedric Demond Willoughby was a professional basketball player from the United States. Standing at 6’3″, he began his college basketball journey at the University of New Orleans before moving to Iowa State, where Tim Floyd was his coach.

In his two seasons at Iowa State, he was the runner-up for the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year. As a senior, he scored an average of 18.9 points per game and had a 45% success rate with three-point shots.

Willoughby played a crucial role in Iowa State’s impressive performance in the Big Eight Conference, defying expectations. In 1996, he led the team to its first Big Eight Conference playoff tournament victory and received the tournament MVP award.

Known for his precise and quick jump shot, Willoughby set records with nine three-pointers against No. 1 Kansas in 1997. His senior year featured him making 102 three-pointers, a record that still stands at Iowa State. The team reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen that season.

After playing professionally in Italy, Willoughby joined the Chicago Bulls for the 1999–2000 NBA season, where he made 25 appearances. He later joined the Australian National Basketball League’s Sydney Kings but faced a knee injury during practice.
