Ghostface in Scream 6: What is His Purpose?

Do you enjoy horror films? It takes some getting used to, but once you do, you’ll get hooked on discovering new subgenres. Scream 6 is unquestionably the major event in 2023, especially for slasher lovers. Veteran actors from the franchise, notably Courteney Cox, return in their roles, and Jenna Ortega from Scream 5 reprises her role as Tara Carpenter.

Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett transfer viewers to New York City, a drastic difference from the Woodsboro setting of the five prior installments despite some trickier with filming sites. The film has both new and recognizable characters.

Of course, there are other innovations to be grateful for as well. A fresh Ghostface is prowling the streets. We do have answers now that the sequel has been released. Who is the murderer of Ghostface in Scream 6?

Ghostface in Scream 6

In Scream 6, the identities of not one, not two, not three, but four Ghostface killers are revealed. They are Quinn Bailey (Liana Liberato), Detective Wayne Bailey, Ethan Landry (Tony Revolori), and Jason Carvey (Jack Champion) (Dermot Mulroney).

The opening scene depicts Jason dressing up as Ghostface and killing his film studies instructor, Laura (Samara Weaving). The collaboration between him and Greg, a fellow student at Blackmore University, is then made known as he returns home. They prepare to assassinate the Carpenter sisters, but Jason gets a call from Ghostface, and the two are killed.

It is established throughout the film that a second Ghostface is out there, completely unrelated to Jason, who also targets the Carpenter sisters. Gale Weathers, Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), and, it turns out, the Ghostface killers, who have been tricking the innocents along the way, can all help, which is fortunate for them.

Quinn appeared to have passed away in an earlier scene, but it is revealed in the concluding act that the three of them staged the death and had been planning the Carpenter sisters’ actions all along.

What is Ghostface’s Motive in Scream 6?

Quinn and Ethan are Wayne’s kids, and it turns out that Richie, one of the two killers from Scream 5, is related to them. Wayne’s obsession with exacting retribution on everyone responsible for his first son’s death developed after the death of that child. He enlisted his other children to assist him in his heinous mission to exact revenge on Richie’s killer.

Sam (Melissa Barrera), who killed Richie, is his prime target, but everyone connected to the events of Scream 5 is also wanted for murder. The shrine that the group visits in Scream 6 are a monument to Richie that Wayne put up since Richie had a fascination with the Stab movies.
