The Little Mermaid 2023 First Trailer Immerses Us in Ariel’s World
The Halle Bailey-led live-action version of Disney’s The Little Mermaid has generated much interest since the first sneak peek was unveiled at D23. Within a few days, the first video, in which Bailey gave an incredible performance of “Part of Your World,” had received more than 104 million views worldwide.
And now that the movie is just a few months away, Disney has finally unveiled the first legitimate trailer, which provides viewers a closer glimpse of Ariel’s underwater home.
The new video focuses on Ariel’s yearning to be a part of the surface world and gives us a more detailed look at some of the key characters in her story while focusing less on Ariel and her show-stopping number than the first teaser did.
It all leads up to her encounter with the evil sea witch Ursula (Melissa McCarthy), who plays the part with the ideal campy, dramatic flair, beginning with her daring rescue of Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) and their developing relationship with her father King Triton’s (Javier Bardem) harsh response.
Ariel’s underwater kingdom is shown in greater detail in the second part of the trailer, which is set to the “Part of Your World” reprise. There is also a first look at “Under the Sea,” the joyful song from the movie that won Alan Menken and Howard Ashman the 1989 Oscar for Best Original Song.
The Little Mermaid Release Date
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures plans to release the movie in theaters on May 26, 2023, in the United States. Rob Marshall and Halle Bailey appeared at the 2022 D23 Expo on September 9, 2022, to deliver an exclusive preview of the movie’s “Part of Your World” scene. Attendees responded well to the presentation and applauded Bailey’s vocal performance.
On the same day, the public saw the teaser trailer for the movie. On October 13, 2022, the first movie poster was released to the public, which Bailey synchronously captioned on Twitter: “Words can’t describe how immensely honored I feel to play the mermaid of my dreams.”

The Little Mermaid Cast
Together with Bailey, Bardem, McCarthy, and Hauer-King, the picture will also feature Daveed Diggs as Sebastian the Crab, Jacob Tremblay as Ariel’s buddy Flounder, a guppy, and Awkwafina as Scuttle, a diving bird in this version rather than a seagull in the original.
Art Malik will also appear as Prince Eric’s butler Grimsby in the movie. A few additional characters were added for this version, including Karina, India, Pearla, and Queen Selina (Noma Dumezweni, Lorena Andrea, and Simone Ashley) (Kasja Mohammar).
Rob Marshall will helm The Little Mermaid, with a screenplay by David Magee and Jane Goldman. Along with Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also acts as a producer with Marshall, Marc Platt, and John Deluca, Alan Menken, who created the music for the original movie, will return to contribute new songs for the live-action remake.
