Verisign, the global leader in domain names and internet security released its Q3 reports on Thursday. Verisign provides a briefing of the domain name industry in its report.
The report provides trends in domain name registrations and analysis of performance of the top domains.
342.4 million Top Level Domains were registered worldwide in the third quarter of 2018. The third quarter saw 2.6 million new domain registrations.
Domain name registrations have grown with a 3.5% year on year increase. The .com and .net TLDs had a combined total of approximately 151.7 billion domain name registrations at the end of the third quarter.
Total new gTLD (ngTLD) domain name registrations were approximately 23.4 million.
Total ccTLD domain name registrations were approximately 149.3 million at the end of the third quarter of 2018.
The top 10 ccTLDs, as of Sept. 30, 2018, were .cn (China), .tk (Tokelau), .de (Germany), .uk (United Kingdom), .ru (Russian Federation), .nl (Netherlands), .br (Brazil), .eu (European Union), .fr (France), and .au (Australia).
